What is the Gottman Method and how can it help couples to re-connect?

John and Julie Gottman are leaders in couple’s therapy research and have developed the Gottman Method from their many years of research findings. Their studies have led to the discovery of what interactions can predict divorce with a high percentage of accuracy [1]. Through this research they developed the Sound Relationship House Theory that guides therapeutic interventions. This theory is comprised of 9 components of what the research shows to make healthy relationships [3]. With the Gottman Method, couples will be guided to make improvements to three core areas important to relationship health; friendship, conflict management and shared meaning. Importantly, research has also shown this method to be effective for same-sex couples [2].
