Jessa Marcenko, M.A.C.P., B.Sc., Registered Provisional Psychologist
I take pride in being able to offer my clients an eclectic approach. I believe this approach allows me to provide my clients with the best fit for their specific needs. Clients who have found relief in my care have had goals of decreasing their anxiety and trauma-related symptoms, depressive symptoms, problematic behaviours, burnout, OCD and perfectionism tendencies. Others have had goals to increase their stress management, coping skills, work/life balance, self-esteem, self-compassion, boundaries and healing childhood wounds. Additionally, I am passionate about helping individuals figure out their next move when feeling stuck.
I enjoy guiding couples through the levels of the “relationship house” and discovering their relationship’s strengths and weaknesses. Discovering that there is a weakness in the foundation of the relationship helps to guide our sessions in productive ways. This assessment can then help to strengthen and restore the emotional connections that have faded and increase conflict management skills that are lacking. I utilize the popular Gottman Method to achieve this progress and have completed their Level 1 Training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
I support my clients through the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness. I do not offer what is called “standard DBT,” but I consider my approach to be DBT-informed. See the therapy modalities page for more information regarding this. I incorporate psycho-sensory interventions, called self-havening when needed. I am pleased to be able to offer self-havening and believe these types of interventions make my approach unique and effective for calming the nervous system. I have training in Written Exposure Therapy (WET), which has promising research in decreasing PTSD symptoms. I am again expanding my knowledge and am currently working towards a certification for Somatic Therapy (body-based), to further support clients with trauma-related symptoms.
